Better Maps for SpareRoom does not use any developer-run backend and does not send your data to servers operated by the developer. Data saved by the extension — such as commute locations, preferences, cached route results, and related coordinates — is stored locally in your browser on your device.
To provide its core features, the extension may send user-provided addresses, location data, route queries, and listing-related coordinates directly from your browser to third-party services described below.
The extension stores data in Chrome’s chrome.storage.local on your device.
This may include:
You can remove this locally stored data at any time using the extension’s cache-clearing controls or by uninstalling the extension.
The extension contacts the following third-party services only to provide its core functionality:
Google Maps (google.com, maps.googleapis.com, maps.gstatic.com)
Used to open directions pages and retrieve travel-time information for routes requested by the user.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org)
Used to convert addresses entered by the user into map coordinates.
postcodes.io Used to look up UK postcodes from coordinates for Area360 links.
CARTO tile servers (basemaps.cartocdn.com)
Used to display the map preview inside the extension’s location picker.
SpareRoom (spareroom.co.uk)
Used to read listing page data, including map-related metadata, so the extension can enhance listing, search, and map pages.
The extension does not intentionally attach custom identifiers to these requests. However, third-party services may still receive standard browser and network data such as IP address, cookies, headers, and account/session information according to their own privacy policies.
Locally stored extension data remains in your browser until it is cleared by you or removed when the extension is uninstalled.
